-It is illegal for anyone under age 16 to ride an electric bike of any kind.

The parent of any child and the guardian of any ward shall not authorize or knowingly permit the child or ward to violate any of the provisions of this title relating to the operation of pedalcycles.
E-Motos (Out-of-Class Electric Vehicles) – Bike Doylestown Guidance
Bike Doylestown supports PeopleForBikes’ three-class system for electric bicycles, designed to regulate low-speed e-bikes that closely resemble traditional bicycles in size, handling, and speed.
Key points:
-Devices with an electric motor over 750 watts are not e-bikes. These “e-motos” (or Out-of-Class Electric Vehicles, OCEVs) fall outside the Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bike categories and should not be sold, advertised, or labeled as e-bikes.
-For adults, e-motos are only allowed in automobile travel lanes. They are not permitted on bike trails, sidewalks, or other bicycle infrastructure.
Bike Doylestown encourages safe, responsible riding for all users and adherence to local regulations to keep our streets and trails safe for everyone.
