UPCOMING HEARING - CELL PHONE ANTENNAS
The Borough of Doylestown recently received applications for the installation of Distributed Antenna System (DAS) "nodes" throughout the Borough. These nodes are cylinder-shaped broadband antennae that are smaller and have lesser coverage area than the typical large towers you are probably familiar with. The intent of these nodes is to supplement and enhance existing broadband coverage, in this case on behalf of Verizon. Because of the shorter range, the applicant has proposed an overall plan to install 44 of these nodes on existing and proposed utility poles throughout the Borough as shown on the attached map. Installations on existing poles would typically involve an extension of the pole height.
These installations do not comply with the Doylestown Borough Zoning Ordinance and the applications were consequently denied. Crown Castle LLC, the applicant has appealed the legality and validity of the Borough Ordinance and alternatively requested relief from the Borough's Zoning Hearing Board to permit the installations.
There is a public hearing scheduled for Monday, June 5 at 7:00 PM at Lenape Middle School, 313 West State Street. We urge you to attend this important meeting.
