COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO SPRAY ADULT MOSQUITOES AUGUST 26 IN DOYLESTOWN BOROUGH
The Bucks County Health Department, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), will conduct a limited adult mosquito control spray in Doylestown Borough on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at approximately 8:15 p.m. weather permitting. A rain date for this spray will be Wednesday, 8/27/14.
This mosquito spray will be limited to three areas of Doylestown Borough;
1. Chapman Park
2. Sandy Ridge Twins and Sandy Ridge Acres including Crestland Terrace, Hillcrest Drive, Sandy Ridge Drive, Pearl Drive, Stacey Drive, Broadale Road, Murray Drive, and Broadale Court.
3. Clemens Farm and the area surrounding Hillside Park. including Bridge street, Hillside Avenue, Ely Lane, Meadow Lane, Clemens Road, Timothy Drive, Homestead Drive, Bennett Drive, and Scott Road.
The application chemical will be Masterline Kontrol 4-4, and will be released at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. The spray will be conducted using a spray truck: a 1997 Chevrolet pickup, with a Ford Ranger lead truck. The spray vehicle and lead vehicle bear a County of Bucks identification on the vehicle side doors. The county Pesticide Applicator Number BU0107 will also appear on the vehicles. The spray will commence by 8:15 pm and conclude by 11 p.m.
According to the Pennsylvania DEP, the product, Masterline Kontrol, is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. The application material has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact to non-target insects and the environment.
All county residents are asked to take precautionary measures to keep down mosquito populations by removing common breeding grounds such as stagnant water. A few ways to help: turn over wheelbarrows and plastic wading pools, drill holes in outdoor recycling containers and clean gutters of drain clogging leaves. Additionally, take measures to reduce mosquito bites by making sure window and door screens fit tight and are free of tears; stay indoors, or wear long pants and shirts during the high risk times of dawn and dusk, and any place where mosquitoes are very common; and use an effective insect repellent containing DEET, picardin or lemon eucalyptus oil.
