PECO Open House
Doylestown Borough officials along with those of other impacted municipalities in the area, met with PECO this week and received a preview of a plan to address power reliability concerns in the Borough and elsewhere. We are pleased to report that PECO is serious about addressing these issues and even more pleased to report that they will be directly targeting what they call “outage pockets”, a number of which are located in the Borough. We urge you to attend PECO’s Open House and learn more about their overall plans and their specific plans for our problem areas.
Information about PECO’s Electric Reliability Improvement Plans
Keeping your lights on is our top priority. When that doesn’t happen, we work hard to safely restore service as quickly as possible, and identify and permanently fix the issue.
During the first half of the year, customers in your area have experienced several power outages. Although these outages had different causes, including weather and vegetation interference, we are dedicated to reducing power outages in the area.
We have completed a thorough review and analysis and have identified ways to improve service to your area. To enhance reliability, we are investing about $10 million in projects in your immediate area that will occur this year and into early 2015. This work is in addition to nearly $600 million invested annually to improve our electric and natural gas systems through equipment upgrades and preventative maintenance. Specifically, our work in your area includes:
Enhanced tree trimming and vegetation removal along more than 43 miles of aerial lines throughout the area
17,700 feet of new aerial wire, including 8,300 feet of tree-resistant wire installed in targeted locations
Advanced equipment and upgrades to existing devices to reduce the number of customers impacted when outages do occur
24 pieces of equipment to help isolate issues and restore service more quickly
New substation transformer and enhancements to an adjacent transformer
Though it is impossible to prevent every power outage, we continue to invest in our system to eliminate outages that can be prevented and reduce the amount of time customers are without service when outages do occur. We believe this work will improve electric reliability for you and your neighbors.
For more details about our work, you also can attend an upcoming open house:
September 29, 2014: Central Bucks West High School, 375 Court St., Doylestown, PA from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
PECO employees will be on hand to provide information about the work we are doing in your area and speak with customers individually.
