Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has recently proposed addition or modification of Special Flood Hazard Areas, the areas that would be inundated by the base (1-percent-annual-chance) flood; base flood elevations or depths; zone designations; or regulatory floodways. If you live in an area that is a Special Flood Hazard Area this may effect your insurance rates.
Before any new or modified flood hazard information is effective for floodplain management purposes, FEMA will provide community officials and citizens an opportunity to appeal the proposed flood hazard information presented on the preliminary FIRM and FIS report posted to the FEMA RAAMP website. Between now and the appeal period end date of 11/23/2013 any owner or lessee of real property in the Borough who believes his or her property rights will be adversely affected by an error in the proposed flood hazard determinations may appeal the determination.
