Need ideas for wet spots in your yard? Love gardening or birds and butterflies? Curious about what a ‘rain garden’ is? Considering an addition but not sure how to handle the additional stormwater?

Stop over to see the demonstration native plant rain gardens at Central Bucks Ambulance 455 East St, Doylestown, Pa. 18901

While it sounds very tropical, "Rain Garden"  is a generic term for a garden designed for wet spots and or stormwater control. Typically they are planted with native plants to provide a garden and landscaped area that needs minimal care and is rewarding to birds and butterflies.

In Spring of 2015 The Borough of Doylestown's Environmental Advisory Council completed a demonstration project to show off the the benefits of indigenous plantings and the ease, feasibility, and attractiveness of non structural BMP’s in a urbanized environment

The garden behind the building was designed for the wet shady location it occupies.  Placed in a stormwater swale, the area is almost always very wet and does not get a  lot of sun, so the plants selected were chosen because they love wet feet. Among the benefits of this garden is that there is no longer a puddle attracting mosquitos.

The garden next to the parking lot is designed for a dryer area that gets a lot of water flow over it when it rains. The garden is designed to slow down the flow of water and hold it for the plants.

The gardens were designed by Carter Van Dyke of Carter van Dyke Associates and Mark Brownlee of Archewild

The gardens were installed with a grant from the  PECO Green Region program as well as donations from the following:
