Broad Street Completed
By John Davis, Borough Manager
Doylestown Borough has a beautiful new Gateway with the completion of the $978,000 North Broad Street Improvement Project. Funded by a PennDot TEA-21 Grant, the improvements represent the most significant step to date in Borough Council's ambitious effort to reinvent the Borough's former industrial back door as an attractive, convenient new Gateway that will serve, among others, the majority of those who visit the County Courthouse and future Justice Center.
Those who choose this Gateway will be greeted by the beautifully landscaped Gateway Pocket Park at Sandy Ridge and a striking new Welcome Sign. Victorian Style Streetlights, new street trees, and landscaped medians line the corridor. The installation of Victorian Style Traffic Signals at Broad and Main Streets, as part of a separate grant project this Fall, will complete the improvements.
The project is the latest step in Council's plan to complete redevelopment of the North Broad Street Corridor. To date this has included the full opening of the Broad Street Interchange on the 611 bypass, the creation of the award winning Lantern Hill and Belvedere Traditional Neighborhood Developments, the installation of Victorian Style Traffic Signals at Veterans Lane and Sandy Ridge Drive/Shady Retreat Road, the acquisition of the Varcoe and the Dairy Queen Tracts for parkland, storm water improvements, and the ongoing extension of Doyle Street.
